Basic Rules of Poker

Poker

Whether you are a beginner or a poker pro, there are a few basic rules to remember. It is a gambling game played by 5-7 players, usually with a deck of cards. The goal of the game is to win the pot by creating the best hand.

In most versions of poker, there are two or more betting intervals during each deal. Each interval begins with a bet of one or more chips, typically in clockwise order. A player can call or fold. If all players call, the betting interval ends. If nobody calls, the betting period continues until the last remaining player folds.

A straight flush is a hand of five cards of the same suit. It starts with the highest value card. The lowest possible hand is 7-5-4-3-2. The Royal Flush is an ace high straight flush.

A high card will break a tie when multiple players are tied for the highest card. The high card can be a high card or a low card. If two identical poker hands tie, the winner is determined by the ranking of the next card. If the ace is the low card, then the low card is the highest.

A pair of kings isn’t that good off the deal. Generally speaking, the highest card wins. If two pairs of four are tied, the highest unmatched card breaks the tie.

The best possible hand is five of a kind. A pair of kings and a pair of aces beats a straight flush.
